Aphorism of the Day: Scientists are the Court Jesters of Philosophy

In the capacity of science, scientists are brilliant, and hard and tireless workers. But as philosophers they are the most intellectually lazy and obtuse bunch of rubes I have ever come across; for even the most basic rational contradiction seems entirely beyond them.

  1. Like using distant starlight to determine the age of the universe, since the speed of light is constant with regard to the observer and time is relative.

  2. But yes, the relativity of time and its purely abstract nature (meaning it doesn’t actually exist beyond the concept) makes it impossible to determine the age of the universe “empirically”.
